To date, one hundred and sixty-nine people have self-immolated in protest of the conditions inside an occupied Tibet. The accounts and images of people who have set themselves on fire in protest have been gathered by Tibetan activists, and are presented in this risograph print by Lodoe Laura.
This print was adapted from a larger project in which the artist made screenprints of each person who self-immolated as a large-scale memorial and testimony. The prints from the original project were rendered in an ink made from incense ash gathered in the Tibetan community, and were screenprinted individually by hand.
This risograph print was made for Editions JOJO’s exhibition “Kaghazi Pairahan: Publishing and Resistance in South Asia” at Printed Matter, April 2024. -Publisher
