The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) What underlies.

TAT -The Doctrine- is a projective interpretation technique and test. The viewers are asked to develop their own story of what they look at.

What are you looking at? Can you identify the objects? Why is this situation occurring? What are the protagonists feeling and thinking? What does it provoke? What do the protagonists feel and think? What does it provoke? What does it evoke?

Images that mostly contain anthropomorphic features (not entirely human) will stimulate the expression of relevant emotional conflicts of the subject. What underlies beneath the viewer will evoke unexpected reactions, based on what they perceive as reality. Unresolved processes from a given personal history, context, geographic location and emotional situation. Used hermetically among the community of psychoanalysts, psychotherapists and behavioral psychologists, this clinical and diagnostic tool has been publicly released in 2023.

The Doctrine undoubtedly holds the same relevance as the well-known Rorschach test. In Freudian terms this projective test unleashes the “it” as the primary psychic instance: the most primitive region of the psychic apparatus. It comprises the inherited, the instinctive, the innate that concern the psychic impulses. The sinister, the weird and the creepy as perception of an altered reality, disturbing objects that wish to be deciphered. Veiled sexual impulses governed by the “pleasure principle”. The “it” is the source of all psychic energy. Who has the power? The viewer? Or those who watch the one who observes? From Homo sapiens to Homo videns, and now to Homo fragilis as a condition of the first two decades of the 21st century.
