“Kette von Bild und Aber-Bild” compiles 2 years of InterStar PicsArt Image-creation by Eilert Asmervik, with contributions from Joakim Mathisen. Containing collaged composition spanning from the meme-like to painterly quality, the artist’s visual notebook, the “recent” photo folder and other smartphone accumulations are composted to grow new images. Now harvested and brought to print! Traces of InterStar past are also interwoven as posters, works and documentary photos from events are incorporated into images.
Taking its title from the modernist-milestone of German literature, Broch’s “Der Tod der Vergil” (The Death of Vergil), the book holds a link of image and counter-image: “… For the images were taut with reality, since reality was always to be symbolized only by reality—, image upon image, reality upon reality, not one of them actually real as long as it stood alone, yet each a single symbol of an inviolate, ultimate truth which was the sum of their totality…” (Hermann Broch, The Death of Vergil)
The first edition of 20 comes with a silkscreened cover, hand printed by the artist.
Since 2019 InterStar Verlag has published DIY zines in Oslo, Vienna, Amsterdam and Paris.
