The text in the book describes the artistic process leading up to the execution of an embroidery based on color registrations Jonsbu did along the river Vorma in August 2018.
“I am trying to take the colours of the experience of the Vorma with me, so that I can later embroider the colours, and then perhaps the experiences will remain there among the threads.” (p. 63)
The artist shares thoughts about the work’s idea, method, format and choice of materials while she tries to arrive at an artistically interesting and practically feasible work. This publication is part of a study of her practice where the relationship between process and result may seem fluid, and where it is unclear whether it is the process or a finished work that is most important. The book’s text, photographic material and layout seek to make visible aspects of the work prior to the embroidery, and thus give form to and equate different phases in the artistic process.
