Most pages in this perfect-bound, risograph-printed book are filled with images of locks of hair, some of which Olvera has arranged in rows, lines, or crosses. On other pages, it appears that they have dropped a handful of strands onto the bed of a photocopier and scanned the result. In the center spread, Olvera presents text adapted from various sources. In the text, a “medium” on a stage takes off his wig and heels, interacting with the audience and delivering a monologue. The medium recounts memories of punk markets, poppy fields, and encounters with famous authors. The locks of hair might symbolize memory itself–pieces of us that scatter over time. Through the juxtaposition of image and text, Natasha is an exploration of both physical and emotional texture.
