For the 2nd issue of Lotion magazine, editor Pam Butler deconstructs female figures from the modern art canon, Duchamp’s Étant Donné, and weaves together various contemplations of the female as a sexualized object created by and for the masculine gaze. Personal and feminist, the issue draws from Butler’s own images of gaslights, waterfalls, and paintings in order to explore her relationship with the gender political subject matter in post-modern art.
Lotion is a quarterly magazine, creating visual essays that introduce more questions rather than answers through loose themes and disparate imagery. Most issues are created and edited by Pam Butler using her own drawings and photographs in conjunction with found imagery.
