The books in this table speak to an obsessive confrontation with the physical and aesthetic contents of the page. There is an overriding encouragement of active reading, seen most chaotically in Misaki Kawai’s Paper Party while Ben Jones’ Men’s Group : The Video is demurely organized within a spiral binding. Pages are brought to life with an onslaught of paper stock materials, three-dimensional or interactive elements, and an assortment of source material. Be it found photographs of Silvio Berlusconi’s lovers, the mix-and-matched photographs in Removed Exposures, or the loose index card watercolors in 100 Skies, the reader has an opportunity to physically reorganize the imagery in these books. Supplementary material, including theoretical writings or the inventive use of a cereal box slipcase, contributes to a liberated reading experience—one that transforms upon each interaction. With an onslaught of evocative elements, the traditional book form is interrupted and tactilely enhanced.
