In My Corner: A-side is a story told by two elementary school friends that met at school band rehearsal in the South Bronx in 2007. While rekindling their friendship both artists have bonded over their love for The Bronx, film photography and the process of art making.
Inuer Pichardo, photographer, actor and writer, documented familiar moments that any Bronxite can hold close to their heart. Seeing The Bronx through the lens of a camera made Inuer fall in love with home all over again, as if what he’s seen a million times had a different element to it now. That observation, the curiosity to see what the rest of The Bronx would look like, is just one of the many factors that pushed him to keep shooting.
Les-lie Lopez, Artist and Bronx History Keeper, curated Pichardo’s photographs and amplified the soul that these images have. The people from this borough carry a spirit that embodies the history of the Bronx. We look out for one another when the systems that are here to help never provide the aid that they say they do. From the Lenape folks being pushed out of their land, to Robert Moses permanently ruining the layout of The Bronx, to Puerto Rican settlement, to the fires that pushed folks out of their homes because they faced financial insecurities, to the birth of the Latin-Hustle, and Hip-Hop. - Publisher
