“Mẹ” means mom in Vietnamese. Mothers are mysterious beings. I do not feel like I’ve ever fully known my Mẹ for who she is. Yet, she is the person I hold dearest to my heart. I wanted to make a book as an homage to who I think my Mẹ is.
To illustrate this separation between intimacy and unfamiliarity, I digitally built 3D sculptures to provide context for my writing. These 3D sculptures act as dreamscape illustrations which are nostalgic yet unreal. By utilizing the risograph medium, I added another layer of distortion and interpretation of my story about my Mẹ.
